Why missions? Why Costa Rica? Why this summer? Why support-raising?
Let me tell you a little bit about how the Lord has led me to these answers!
During my first year in college, the Lord radically gripped my heart for the sake of the nations. I fell in love with different cultures and began to learn what it looked like to truly champion God’s beautifully unique creation.
My sister, Nikki, is one of the sweetest examples on what it looks like to count the cost, and always choose Jesus. After seeing her go on the World Race, I also craved to say “yes, Lord. Send me!” However, I quickly learned that my “Send Me!” meant that I released all control to the Lord, meaning he can take me wherever he wants. And guess who ended up at college in Arkansas? This girl. Not exactly what I was going for in my bold prayer, but it was EXACTLY what God was going for. And, though school and I have never been friends, I still know the Lord has so clearly called me to receive my bachelor’s degree here at John Brown University.
When I transferred to JBU in the Fall of 2020, the Lord told me to begin learning Spanish. I was not wildly thrilled about this new endeavor but decided to trust Him regardless. I began with Duolingo, and eventually enrolled in a Spanish course at school. Learning a new language has forced me to be patient and fully rely on our Father more than anything else. Since then, the Lord is continuously giving me such a heart for the Hispanic population.
As I was asking the Lord where He wanted me this summer, I felt Him clearly highlight the World Race Semesters program. He is so faithful and kind to meet me in the midst of this long-time desire. Such a sweet reminder of how the Lord truly does care for us.
Through the acceptance process, I have followed the peace of the Lord. I am excited to partner with local ministries and maintain a posture of curiosity in their beautiful culture. I am excited to see what it looks like to be fully sustained by the Lord. And I am excited to learn how Costa Rican’s connect with the Lord differently than we do in the States.
BUT! Here is the thing… I cannot do this without YOU!
